On March 10, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Christopher Boerner, Chairman and CEO of Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS). The two sides exchanged views on BMS’s cooperation with China, China-US economic and trade relations and other topics.
Wang Wentao said that in the face of the complex and severe international landscape, the Chinese economy is generally stable with progress, remaining an important engine and stabilizing force of world economic growth. At present, China’s pharmaceutical industry has entered a new stage of high-quality development, and it is hoped that biopharmaceutical companies represented by BMS will introduce more advanced products and services to the Chinese market, engage in the “healthy China” development, and share in China’s development opportunities. Wang Wentao pointed out that there is no winner in a trade war, and there is no way out for protectionism. China and the U.S. carry out economic and trade cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit, and create a stable environment for normal economic and trade cooperation between industries of the two countries, which is in the common interests of the two peoples.
Christopher Boerner noted that BMS has been in China for more than 40 years, actively contributing to the health and well-being of the Chinese people. It will continue to expand its investment in China and conduct innovation cooperation with its Chinese partners to realize the vision of “in China, for China, for the world”. BMS promised to provide Chinese consumers with stable and high-quality products and services, and further play the role of a bridge to help ensure the sound and stable development of the U.S.-China relationship.
